A scientific conference dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the 1948 Ashgabat earthquake was held at the Institute of Seismology and Atmospheric Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan.
According to the publication “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”, the theme of the conference “Seismic risk and world experience” touched upon the issues of modern urban planning, taking into account historical data on earthquakes.
Representatives of the Research Institute of Earthquake Resistant Construction of the Ministry of Construction and Architecture of Turkmenistan, the Department for Coordination of Construction Works of the Ashgabat City Administration, specialists from the Digital Economy Development Department of the Turkmen Communications Agency and the Institute of Seismology and Atmospheric Physics of the Academy of Sciences took part in the forum.
Seismologist Jun Matsuo, a member of the delegation of experts of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Turkmenistan, gave a report on productive cooperation with Turkmen colleagues. He also spoke about Japan's experience in dealing with natural disasters caused by earthquakes.
Currently in Turkmenistan, within the framework of the JICA technical partnership project, research work is being carried out to improve earthquake monitoring.
The Institute carries out comprehensive monitoring - seismic geophysical, geodynamic, hydrodynamic and geochemical, which is key to ensuring the registration of earthquakes and the prompt transmission of seismic information.
