Today, October 4, is an international holiday with almost a hundred years of history - World Animal Day. Man, as the only intelligent inhabitant of the planet, is responsible to other living beings. World Animal Day reminds us of this.
The idea of the holiday belongs to the German journalist and animal rights activist Heinrich Zimmermann, who, since 1925, has held an event called “Animal Day” in Berlin, first on March 24 and then on October 4. At the global level, the holiday was established in 1931 at the International Congress of supporters of the movement for the protection of nature, which was held in the Italian city of Florence. Since then, the number of states taking part in the celebration has been steadily growing. “Rambler” reports about this.
The purpose of World Animal Day is to draw public attention to the problems of extinction of certain species of animals. After all, according to scientists, every hour on Earth three species of animals disappear without a trace, and over the past half century, populations of wild animals have decreased by an average of almost 70%, the source notes.
Let us remind that in Turkmenistan the protection of animals is enshrined at the legislative level. Rare and endangered animals are included in the Red Book of Turkmenistan.
