Organization of Turkic States: 14 years of dialogue and cooperation

On October 3, 2023, the Organization of Turkic States celebrates the 14th anniversary of its creation. On this day in 2009, the Nakhchivan Agreement was signed on the establishment of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States, which was subsequently renamed the Organization of Turkic States, according to the Anadolu Ajansi website.

The purpose of creating the organization is to deepen cooperation between Turkic-speaking countries, contribute to regional peace and stability. The basis of cooperation between Turkic-speaking countries is a common historical and cultural heritage, a common language.

Over the 14 years of its existence, the organization has achieved significant success in developing cooperation between Turkic-speaking countries. The Council of Presidents, the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Council of Elders, the Committee of Senior Officials were created, and six summits of the organization were held.

In 2019, Uzbekistan became a full member of the organization, and in 2021, Hungary and Turkmenistan received observer status. Thus, OTG achieved one of its expansion goals.

At present time, the organization includes five countries: Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye and Uzbekistan.

The goal of the OTG is to strengthen the atmosphere of mutual trust in the Turkic world, strengthen political solidarity, accelerate opportunities for economic and technical cooperation, ensure healthy human relations and take into account the historical and cultural accumulations of the Turkic world as widely as possible.

Within the framework of the celebration of the 14th anniversary of the creation of the OTG, various events will be held, including a leadership summit in Astana on November 3.
