Australian Sandra Searle from Perth became pregnant while pregnant: the first conception occurred naturally, and the second as a result of in vitro fertilization (IVF). This was reported by “Gazeta.Ru” with reference to ABC News.

Australian couple David and Sandra Searle have already become parents twice thanks to IVF and again turned to assisted reproductive technologies, as doctors stated that due to David’s illness, they were unlikely to be able to conceive a child naturally.

At the beginning of the IVF cycle, the woman was diagnosed with abnormally high levels of hormones. During the scan, doctors discovered that there was a seven-to-eight-week-old fetus in the uterus, as well as another embryo 18 days younger than the first. As it turned out, the first was conceived naturally, and the second as a result of IVF.

The woman noted that the third pregnancy was especially difficult. Nevertheless, children of different sexes were born healthy on the same day, although in fact the girl is 18 days older than the boy, that is, one child was born at term, and the other was premature. This is noticeable in their height and weight: the boy weighed only two kilograms at birth, and the girl - three.

This condition of “double pregnancy” is called superfetation, ten such cases have been registered in the world, the source notes.
