The congress of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) ended in the Mexican city of Cancun. Within the framework of the congress, elections of the president and members of the board of this sports organization took place. The event was attended by the Chairman of the Tennis Federation of Turkmenistan (TTF), Eziz Dovletov, who, on behalf of the national federation, voted for the new leadership of the ITF, the website “Turkmenistan: Golden Age” reports.
It is noted that the current ITF President David Haggerty was re-elected for a third term. On the sidelines of the congress, ITF Vice-President Luca Santili noted the achievements of the Turkmen Tennis Federation over the past 4 years, which were set as an example of successful development for other national federations.
The congress included a two-day conference dedicated to the development of tennis in the world, and a number of bilateral meetings aimed at strengthening cooperation between national federations.
At its conclusion, a doubles tennis tournament was held among the congress delegates, in which 96 leaders from 147 countries took part. As a result, Turkmenistan was awarded a gold medal. The head of the Turkmen federation, Eziz Dovletov, paired with Aditya Kanna from India, won 9 victories, including in the final over tennis legend Mark Woodford.
At the official reception held on the occasion of the election of the new leadership of the ITF and the conference, the winners of the tournament were presented with medals by ITF President David Haggerty. It also announced the opening of applications to ITF committees and working groups, the acceptance of which will last until October 16, 2023. At the discretion of the ITF leadership, the most successful national leaders will be elected to these committees and groups.
