From September 22 to 24, Ashgabat hosts the country's junior table tennis championship, organized by the Table Tennis Federation of Turkmenistan. About 60 athletes from different regions are participating in the tournament, including from the Mary table tennis school under the leadership of Begench Agaorazov.
As the chairman of the Table Tennis Federation of Turkmenistan, Agamurat Allanazarov, told a Turkmenportal correspondent, the competition is held in two age categories: those born in 2011-2013 and those born in 2014 and younger. The purpose of the tournament is to identify young talents, develop table tennis in the country, patriotic education of youth, as well as prepare for participation in international competitions.
Based on the results of the championship, winners and runners-up in each category will be awarded. Promising athletes who will form the backbone of the Turkmenistan national team in the future will also be identified.
