The first freight train left Russia for Saudi Arabia. Its path ran along the international transport corridor “North-South” in transit through the territories of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran.

According to newscentralasia.net with reference to Shahriar Shahriari, director general of the customs department of the Iranian province of Golestan, the first freight train from Russia proceeded to Iran through the Inche-Burun crossing border with Turkmenistan.

Then the train moves south to the port of Bandar Abbas, from where the cargo will be sent to Jeddah.

As the official noted, the new route will reduce the delivery time by several days.

The cost of transiting goods along the “North-South” corridor was almost halved due to the reduction of the customs tariff, Shahriari emphasized.

It is expected that almost 250 billion USD worth of products from India, China and East Asia will be delivered via the “North-South” transport corridor to Europe, the source notes.
