On August 23, the Congress of the International Basketball Federation was held in Manila, at which a new president of the organization was elected for a period from 2023 to 2027, according to the FIBA website.

Sheikh Saud Ali Al Thani became unanimously the head of FIBA, who will replace Hamane Nyang in this post. Al Thani has previously served as Vice President of FIBA, President of FIBA Asia since 2002, President of the Qatar Basketball Federation and Vice President of the Qatar Olympic Committee.

Basketball is a global sport and it is our most important strength. Today, I can only make one promise: I will work diligently with the FIBA leaders and with the entire central council for the benefit of basketball and the organization,” Al Thani said.
