The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Turkmenistan are working on the next country partnership strategy for 2024-2028. Projects are being prepared in the health, finance, transport and energy sectors.

To date, the Bank has provided 13 loans, grants and technical assistance to the public sector in Turkmenistan for a total of 632,6 million USD, reports newscentralasia.net with reference to an updated Bank newsletter.

ADB is a long-standing partner of the government of Turkmenistan. In 2022, ADB increased its transactional technical assistance portfolio by 225 000 USD to help prepare eligible projects in Turkmenistan.

The Bank has made significant progress in reviewing proposed projects, including the SME Exporter Capacity Building Project and the Ashgabat-Dushak Railway Modernization Project.

The total payments on the loan to Turkmenistan amount to 484,71 million USD. They were financed from ordinary capital resources. ADB's current sovereign portfolio in Turkmenistan includes 1 loan worth 500 million USD, the source said.
