The British Parliament was flooded with rats and mice, so the parliamentarians decided to put a cat in a building on the Thames embankment, which they planned to take in an animal shelter, Komsomolskaya Pravda writes with reference to the Daily Mail.

However, representatives of the animal shelter Battersea Dogs and Cats Home refused the request, explaining that rodents are being fought in the Parliament building with poisonous traps that are equally deadly for mice and rats, as well as for other animals. Shelter officials described the Houses of Parliament as an unsuitable habitat for the cat because of these traps.

Earlier, Battersea Dogs and Cats Home sent one of its "tenants", cat Larry, to the residence of the British Prime Minister on Downing Street. Larry now holds the position of chief rat-catcher of the head of the British government.
