Russian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Ivan Volynkin said that the Russian language remains in demand in the country, despite the lack of official status, reports TASS.
According to him, the Russian language is native to approximately 12% of the population of Turkmenistan and plays an important role in interethnic communication, education, economy and culture.
Volynkin noted that the leadership of Turkmenistan supports the study of the Russian language. In particular, the country plans to erect a new building of the State Russian Drama Theater named after. A.S. Pushkin, the creation of the Russian-Turkmen University and the construction of a new building for primary classes of the Joint Russian-Turkmen School named after. A.S. Pushkin.
The Russian Ambassador expressed his confidence that these projects would help popularize the Russian language in Turkmenistan. He also thanked the country's leadership for their careful attitude to the Russian language.
