The UNESCO World Heritage Center “recommends that Venice be included in the list of World Heritage in danger of extinction”, reports “MIR 24” with reference to the AFP agency.
Members are expected to consider this recommendation at a meeting in the fall.
According to experts, the development of the city's infrastructure, the effects of climate change, as well as mass tourism threaten “irreversible changes in the unique universal value” of Venice.
Two years ago, UNESCO experts already called for changing the status of the city. However, at that time this initiative was not approved, the source notes.
