The Caspian Sea is the largest inland water body in the world, which has an oceanic origin, unique flora and fauna. It washes the shores of five states: Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Azerbaijan. The Caspian Sea has a rich history and culture associated with different tribes and peoples who have lived on its coasts since ancient times. Throughout its history, the Caspian Sea has had about 70 names, writes the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.

“We want to see the Caspian Sea as a space for cooperation, development and prosperity, free from conflicts and confrontations, a place for combining the energy of states, international organizations, business, scientific and technological potential. This is how we define the strategic perspective, calling it a “model of the future” for the Caspian,” said the National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at the First Caspian Economic Forum.

At present, the Caspian Sea remains in common use by all five coastal states, with equal rights to navigation, fishing and other legal, from the point of view of international law, activities.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, speaking at the Sixth Caspian Summit in 2022, noted the readiness of Turkmenistan to continue to contribute to the all-Caspian dialogue, to discuss with interest and find agreed solutions on all issues, to interact on specific areas of the Caspian agenda.

Since ancient times, the Caspian has been called the Sea of Accord, the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov called it the Sea of Opportunities, the source notes.
