Turkmenistan will participate in a new project launched by UNESCO for the countries of Central Asia.

The project is called “Strengthening the resilience of Central Asian countries by promoting regional cooperation in the field of assessing high-mountain nival-glacial systems in order to develop integrated methods for sustainable development and adaptation to climate change”, and its presentation was held in early July in Almaty.

According to newscentralasia.net, the project aims to strengthen the adaptive capacity of the five countries of Central Asia: Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan to the impact of climate change on the cryosphere through assessment, development of regional cooperation and interaction with stakeholders.

The main goal of the project is to integrate knowledge about the cryosphere, including glaciers, permafrost and snow cover, and understand its impact on downstream areas through improved data collection and analysis.

The project aims to provide regional stakeholders with the comprehensive information they need to make effective decisions and develop resilience strategies.

This regional project marks an important milestone in the collective effort to combat climate change and build resilience in the region. By bringing together key stakeholders and strengthening regional cooperation, this initiative will play a key role in advancing sustainable development and adaptation strategies.

* The cryosphere is one of the geographic shells of the Earth, characterized by the presence or possibility of the existence of ice.
