The possibility of supplying Turkmen and Qatari gas to Iraq was considered at a meeting of the Iraqi government chaired by Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani, CentralAsia.news reports citing the press service of the Prime Minister of the country.
Due to the large demand for electricity, the Iraqi government this year increased its production to 26 000 megawatts at least. To do this, the country needs more natural gas.
Despite the fact that Iraq has its own gas, and is also purchased from Iran, these volumes will not be enough to achieve the desired results. In this regard, the head of government instructed to look for other alternative options for obtaining and purchasing gas, including gas supplies from Turkmenistan and Qatar. It was also instructed to negotiate with foreign companies in order to create energy reserves, the source said.
