European Affairs Minister Leo Doherty will visit Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, according to the British Foreign and International Development Department.
The report notes that Doherty plans to discuss further development of cooperation between the UK and Central Asian countries in the field of energy security, climate cooperation and strengthening trade ties.
“Since independence, the UK has unwaveringly supported the security, stability and prosperity of the states of Central Asia. I am here to highlight the role that the UK's experience can play in addressing some of the region's most pressing climate and security challenges,” commented the British minister ahead of his visit.
At Doherty's meeting with Turkmen officials, it is planned to discuss issues of intensifying efforts to combat climate change in the region. New opportunities for British business will also be discussed.
In addition, Leo Doherty intends to visit the Turkmen Carpet Museum, which houses the world's largest handmade carpet.
