The International Olympic Day, celebrated on June 23 on the planet, was celebrated in Turkmenistan with mass sports starts, the website "Turkmenistan: Golden Age" reports today.
The decision to hold World Olympic Day every year was made in January 1948 at the 42nd session of the IOC. This date was chosen in order to perpetuate the date of the creation of the IOC - June 23, 1894. Since then, its celebration has become a tradition in the Olympic Movement. The first action took place on June 23, 1948. And in 1987, in 45 countries of the world, in honor of the International Olympic Day, the first Olympic race was held.
Over time, International Olympic Day has gradually outgrown the boundaries of a regular race or sporting event.
With the acquisition of state independence and the acceptance of the National Olympic Committee as a permanent member of the IOC, the celebration of this Olympic Day began to be regularly celebrated in Turkmenistan.
This year, the Ashgabat multifunctional stadium became the venue for the competitions organized by the State Committee of Turkmenistan for Physical Culture and Sports, the National Olympic Committee and the Main Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the Turkmen capital. Mass races took place here, in which hundreds of our compatriots took part.
A sports festival dedicated to the International Olympic Day was also held on that day in the Gokche sports complex, where representatives of 13 sports demonstrated their skills in demonstration performances.
