In Germany, less than a year before the start of Euro 2024, the official mascot of the tournament was presented. It became a popular children's toy - a teddy bear, which appeared in Germany at the beginning of the XX century, reports the “Izvestia” newspaper with reference to the official website of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).
The bear first visited one of the German schools, and later he will be presented to the public at a friendly match between Germany and Colombia, which will be held at the home arena of “Schalke 04” in Gelsenkirchen. It is also specified that over the next two weeks, children and fans will be able to vote for the name of the mascot. There are four options to choose from, inspired by the German word Bär (bear): Albärt, Bärnardo, Bärnheart and Herzi von Bär.
“The mascot will begin his #MakeMoves journey in schools across Europe, encouraging students to use their physical activity to revitalize and get him moving”, - the post reads.
In particular, children will be able to animate the mascot using motion capture technology, recording their own football moves and celebrations.
Euro 2024 will be held in 10 German cities from June 14 to July 14, 2024. 24 teams will play in the group stage of the tournament.
