In the Atlantic Ocean near the island of Newfoundland, the “Titan” bathyscaphe with tourists who went to the “Titanic” crash site disappeared, writes Gazeta.ru with reference to the Guardian. It is known that one of the people on the ship was able to send a message in which he wrote that everyone was alive and awaiting rescue. However, he could not tell the exact location of the bathyscaphe.

The US Coast Guard in Boston launched a search and rescue operation. It has been suggested that the submersible may have hit the reefs at a depth of 2900 meters. The remains of the “Titanic” itself are at a depth of almost 3800 meters.

OceanGate has been running submersible excursions to the “Titanic” wreck for about three years now. The cost of participation in the expedition starts from 250 thousand dollars.

The first wreck of the “Titanic” was discovered by the expedition of Robert Ballard in 1985. Over the following years, thousands of artifacts from the sunken liner were raised from the bottom of the Atlantic, the surviving remains of the ship itself - it is not possible to raise the stern and bow parts.
