The 58-story building in San Francisco, whose height is more than 195 meters, despite the efforts of specialists, continues to lean. Architects are forced to state that they cannot influence this process, reports “AiF-Moscow” with reference to the New York Post.
A skyscraper with many expensive apartments and a trendy restaurant was commissioned in 2009. Already a couple of years after the start of operation, it was noticed that it shrinks. To date, the skyscraper has sunk more than 40 centimeters into the ground and tilted 73 centimeters from the vertical.
Now engineers are implementing a project aimed at saving the building - at its base are placed more than two dozen piles, each of which has a diameter of about 60 centimeters and goes almost a meter deep into the bedrock.
However, even scientists cannot guarantee that it will be possible to prevent the dangerous movement of a huge building, which, by the way, houses the most expensive apartments on the US West Coast - their cost exceeds 12 million USD, the source notes.
