New York State authorities will distribute one million medical respirators to residents due to high air pollution and thick smog due to fires in Canada, writes TASS with reference to State Governor Katie Hokul.
The governor called the situation in the state “a crisis in the field of health and ecology”.
400 thousand respiratory masks are planned to be distributed at train stations and public transport stops in New York. The remaining 600 thousand masks will be distributed among the authorities of other cities of the state of the same name.
Earlier, representatives of local authorities recommended that residents not leave their homes unnecessarily and wear protective masks.
According to the latest data, there are more than 400 fires in Canada, and more than 30 thousand people were evacuated from the disaster zone.
