More than 2 000 pilgrims from Turkmenistan will make Hajj to Mecca

The Office of the Mufti of Turkmenistan plans to send 2 312 Turkmen pilgrims to Saudi Arabia to perform the Hajj during the celebration of Eid al-Adha, which this year falls on June 28-29-30, the State News Agency reports today.

Representatives of the five velayats (regions) and the capital of Turkmenistan will make a hajj to Mecca and Medina, where they will worship the sacred Kaaba for Muslims and other traditional ritua

The report notes that Turkmen Airlines organizes charter flights to Saudi Arabia for pilgrims.

Hajj is one of the five pillars on which Islam is based. Pilgrimage to the holy places in Mecca is prescribed to be made at least once in a lifetime by every Muslim. Hajj is divided into major and minor. A small hajj (umrah), unlike a large one, a Muslim can perform at any time of the year. In turn, a big hajj is performed in the month dedicated to this “Zul-hija” (“month of pilgrimage”).
