Chairman of the Ice Hockey Federation of Turkmenistan Jora Hudayberdiyev met with the President of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Luc Tardif in Tampere, Finland, where the IIHF Congress was held on May 25-27.
During the meeting between the two sports functionaries, the development of hockey in Turkmenistan was discussed. Tardif noted the progress in the development of Turkmen hockey.
It is worth noting that during the Congress, elections were held for the host country of the 2027 Ice Hockey World Championship. Germany has received the right to host the 2027 World Cup. Germany's competitor for the right to host the world championship was Kazakhstan. The application of Germany received 75% of the votes (102 delegates), Kazakhstan - 25% (34). To win, it was necessary to score 50% + 1 vote. Initially, Norway also claimed to host the tournament, but in January the country withdrew the application.
The 2023 world championship will be held in Finland and Latvia, in 2024 the competition will be held in the Czech Republic, in 2025 in Sweden and Denmark, in 2026 in Switzerland.
Earlier it became known that the matches of group "A" of the third division of the World Ice Hockey Championship with the participation of the national team of Turkmenistan in 2024 will be held in Kyrgyzstan.
The national ice hockey team of Turkmenistan will compete for admission to the second division with the teams of Mexico, South Africa, Thailand, Luxembourg and Kyrgyzstan. The tournament will be held in Bishkek from 10 to 16 March 2024.
