On May 26, the Embassy of Georgia in Turkmenistan organized a reception in honor of the Independence Day of this country. The event was attended by representatives of the Turkmen government, ministries and departments, public organizations, ambassadors of foreign states and heads of representative offices of international organizations accredited in Turkmenistan, the media.
Opening the reception, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Turkmenistan Konstantin Sabiashvili noted that despite the fact that Turkmenistan and Georgia officially established diplomatic relations on July 16, 1992, the partnership between the two countries is based on a solid historical foundation dating back centuries. The diplomat dwelled in detail on the Turkmen-Georgian relations, noting that the Government of Georgia has always supported the resolutions adopted by the UN General Assembly on the initiative of Turkmenistan.
“It is our deep conviction that cooperation between Georgia and Turkmenistan has great prospects, which is largely due to the recently intensified political contacts between the leaders of our countries. On July 20, 2022, within the framework of the official visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili to Turkmenistan, negotiations were held between him and the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, at which the main aspects of relations between our countries in the political, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres were considered. At the same time, the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation will be held in Tbilisi on June 5-6 this year,” Konstantin Sabiashvili emphasized.
The Director General of the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Mammethan Chakiev delivered a congratulatory speech from the Turkmen side. On behalf of the Government of Turkmenistan, he congratulated the people of Georgia on Independence Day, noting that Turkmenistan and Georgia carry out fruitful cooperation in the widest range of areas of mutual interest.
“Our countries have accumulated significant positive experience of joint work and formed a cooperation base, which consists of more than 80 bilateral documents at the governmental and interdepartmental levels,” Mammetkhan Chakiev emphasized.
The cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries also has a good component: participation of Turkmen musicians in the Tsinandali festival in Georgia, an exhibition of Georgian jewelry held in Ashgabat the day before is a confirmation of this. Chakiev also noted that there is a great potential for cooperation between the countries in the transport and communication sphere and the field of tourism.
