In the UK, in one of the private collections, two previously considered lost paintings by the great Dutch artist Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn were found, reported the newspaper “Izvestia” with reference to the Financial Times.

The paintings supposedly depict the spouses Jan Willems van der Pluim and Jaapgen Karels, former acquaintances of Rembrandt. The ancestors of the current owners of the paintings bought them at auction in 1824 and they have been kept in their family collection ever since.

The portraits were discovered by the experts of the auction house Christie's during the assessment of paintings in the house of the owners of the canvases. At first, they had doubts about the authenticity of the paintings, since before art critics knew nothing about these works by Rembrandt, and they had never been exhibited to the public.

The cost of the found canvases, after confirming their authenticity, was estimated by experts at 5-8 million dollars.
