President Serdar Berdimuhamedov proposed using the facilities of the International Seaport of Turkmenbashy for the benefit of Tajikistan on favorable terms. The head of Turkmenistan stated this during the talks held today in Dushanbe with his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
According to the President of Turkmenistan, the mutual efforts of the two countries can and should be aimed at achieving the main goal - the creation of a powerful and modern infrastructure that ensures the unification of the transport systems of Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
“In the context of the development of cooperation in this direction and the beneficial use of the geographical position of the two countries, Turkmenistan is ready to work together on a transport corridor that would connect our states with access to the Caspian Sea,” Serdar Berdimuhamedov said.
As the head of Turkmenistan noted, the states of the Central Asian region, which do not have direct access to the World Ocean, need to make maximum use of the possibilities of the port infrastructure of the eastern Caspian to enter world markets.
“Turkmenistan is ready to discuss the use of the facilities of the Turkmenbashy International Seaport in the interests of Tajikistan on favorable terms,” Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized.
He also suggested considering the possibility of resuming direct and transit air traffic between Turkmenistan and Tajikistan.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov is visiting Tajikistan for the first time on a two-day state visit since taking office as President of Turkmenistan last March.
