The upcoming “China-Central Asia” summit is of epochal importance in the development of relations between China and the states of Central Asia, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said on Monday, adding that the heads of state will sign important political documents following the summit, reports “Xinhua” news agency.

At a regular briefing for journalists, Wang Wenbin spoke about the preparations for the summit, which will be held May 18-19 in Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi province (Northwest China).

Let us remind that at the invitation of the Chinese side, the meeting will be attended by President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Noting that this is the first major diplomatic event hosted by China, as well as the first face-to-face summit held by the heads of six states since the establishment of diplomatic relations 31 years ago, Wang Wenbin stressed that this event is an important milestone in the history of development relations between China and the states of Central Asia.

According to the official, during the summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping will make an important speech, the heads of state will review the development of relations between China and the countries of Central Asia, exchange views on the establishment of the China-Central Asia mechanism, cooperation in various fields and major international and regional issues. of mutual interest.

“We are confident that through the joint efforts of all parties, this summit will chart a new development plan for relations between China and Central Asian countries and usher in a new era of cooperation”, - he said.

At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Presidents of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev will pay state visits to China from May 16 to 20.

“China is ready to join forces with the countries of Central Asia to use the upcoming visits as an opportunity to further expand comprehensive cooperation, bring bilateral relations to a new level, contribute to peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region and around the world”, - the diplomat concluded.
