As part of contracts signed in February 2022, the Chinese company CRRC Ziyang sent two diesel locomotives for freight rail transportation to the railway operator of Turkmenistan. The new diesel locomotives will be delivered in May 2023, Xi Chen, a spokesman for CRRC Ziyang, said during a speech at the ITTC-2023 international forum in Ashgabat.

“On February 11, 2022, a contract was signed for the supply of 15 units of two-section freight mainline diesel locomotives CKD9A-1. The contract value is more than 50 million US dollars. As of April 15, 2023, 13 diesel locomotives have been delivered to Turkmenistan for operation by the owner, and the remaining 2 units are on their way to Turkmenistan,” said Ziyang, a representative of CRRC.

CRRC Ziyang is the largest supplier of locomotives and equipment for railway transport in Turkmenistan.

After the delivery of two diesel locomotives to Ashgabat, the number of CRRC Ziyang locomotives delivered to Turkmenistan will be 281 units. From 2004 to 2016, CRRC Ziyang delivered a total of 251 units of high-power diesel passenger locomotives, high power diesel freight locomotives and diesel shunting locomotives to Turkmenistan.

In early 2023, Turkmenistan signed an online contract for the supply of spare parts for CRRC Ziyang locomotives in the amount of more than 30 million USD.
