The solution to the urgent problem of utilization of large volumes of sulfur, which remains in the process of natural gas production at the fields, was announced by Turkmenistan at the International Forum on Attracting Investments in the Energy Sector of the Country.
In particular, Bayrammyrat Pirniyazov, director of the Scientific Research Institute of Natural Gas of the State Concern "Turkmengas", in his speech spoke about the optimal options for the utilization of sulfur developed by the specialists of the research institute, Nebit-Gaz reports.
As he noted, in Turkmenistan, thanks to the discovery of the largest gas fields in terms of reserves, first of all, Galkynysh, Yashlar, Garakel, Garadzhaovlak group, in the future, natural gas production will be increasingly associated with the production of sour gas. In this regard, the utilization of sulfur is an important issue requiring urgent solutions, both from the point of view of technology and from an environmental point of view.
One of the optimal solutions involves the injection of acid gases into underground reservoirs. The Natural Gas Research Institute has considered several options, namely, the use of aquifers, including the reinjection of hydrogen sulfide or liquid sulfur into the aquifer zone of the reservoir, as well as injection into depleted deposits of neighboring fields.
B. Pirniyazov emphasized:
“We know that sour gas fields are under development in many countries. It would be interesting for us to discuss the experience of other companies and the solutions they have found, as well as to involve interested investors in the problem of hydrogen sulfide and sulfur utilization.”
Recall that the International Forum on attracting foreign investment in the oil and gas industry of Turkmenistan was held in Dubai on April 26-27.
