Italy created a battery that, after the resource has been fully depleted, you can simply eat, writes “Europulse”.
An edible battery is designed for small electronic devices, like an LED or a child's toy. It provides a current of 48 uA for 12 minutes or a few microamps for an hour.
The basis for the battery was the vitamins riboflavin (found in large quantities in dairy products, meat, fish, eggs) and quercetin, which is abundant in buckwheat, cherries and grapes. Riboflavin was used for the negative end of the battery - the anode, for the positive, cathode, quercetin was used. The electrolyte was prepared on a water basis, and the separator was made from nori seaweed.
Even if the battery is not eaten after use, it will completely decompose in the environment after a short time.
