Russian scientists have found a way to produce paracetamol from steel waste, writes Gazeta.ru.

Converter gas was used for drug synthesis. It is 60 percent carbon monoxide (carbon monoxide). With its help, specialists from the Institute of Organoelement Compounds of the Russian Academy of Sciences were able to obtain a number of organic compounds that are an integral part of medicines. Converter gas made it possible to remove oxygen atoms from nitro compounds and carboxylic acids, thanks to which paracetamol, one of the most popular anti-inflammatory and antipyretic drugs, was obtained. In the same way, several more drugs were obtained - the herbicide propanil and the antifungal drug butenafine.

In the future, converter gas is planned to be used for the synthesis of urea, which is used as a fertilizer.
