A round table to discuss the issue of creating a coordinating mechanism for intersectoral adaptation planning in Turkmenistan was held in Ashgabat by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) together with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The range of issues discussed included consideration and approval of a new Regulation on the Working Group on Climate Change of the Interdepartmental Commission for Environmental Protection.

Based on the results of the discussions, the roundtable participants agreed to expand the functions of the Working Group in order to coordinate the activities of stakeholders involved in the preparation of the national adaptation plan.

The working group will support the development of adaptation strategies, the establishment of a financial mechanism to support the NAP process, the development of a roadmap, and the provision of monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of the NAP. The composition of the Working Group was also expanded to ensure the full participation of representatives of various sectors of the economy of Turkmenistan.

The round table was organized jointly by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, the UNDP/Green Climate Fund (GCF) project "Development of the national adaptation planning process in Turkmenistan" and the USAID Program "Support to Improved Public Administration in Turkmenistan".
