April 15 is celebrated as International Day of Culture around the world. April 15, 1935 is considered to be the “birth” date of this holiday, when the so-called “Roerich Pact” – an agreement “On the Protection of Artistic and Scientific Institutions and Historical Monuments” was signed in Washington. The famous Russian artist and philosopher Nicholas Roerich was the author of the idea of protecting artistic monuments from destruction caused by time and human influence.
The pact contains clauses on the protection of objects of cultural value. These points should be observed in any political situation, regardless of the ongoing hostilities.
In honor of the Day of Culture, it is customary to hold various events around the world - exhibitions, creative meetings, art conferences, art history lectures, concerts and theatrical performances.
