The Ambassador of Turkmenistan to India, Shalar Geldynazarov, took part in the first meeting of the Joint Working Group on the Chabahar Port, which was held on April 12-13 in the city of Mumbai within the framework of the “Central Asia-India” multilateral format.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Foreign Ministers of India and the Islamic Republic of Iran, representatives of the transport sector and ambassadors of Central Asian countries, a representative of the UN Food Program in Afghanistan and the Consul General of Afghanistan in Mumbai.

The Chabahar port is a significant link in the North-South transport corridor and an important part of the Ashgabat Agreement. The port is of particular importance for the development of trade relations between India and the countries of Central Asia, as well as for the delivery of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.

Ambassador Shalar Geldynazarov in his speech provided information on the activities and projects of Turkmenistan in the field of transport. He also invited the parties participating in the meeting to the international conference and exhibition “International transit and transport corridors: interconnection and development-2023”, which is planned to be held in Ashgabat on May 3-4 this year.

As a result of the meeting, a Joint Declaration was adopted, reports the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
