The Russian film distributor “Central Partnership” plans to launch a domestic analogue of the IMAX cinema format called “Cosmax”, writes the “Kommersant” newspaper with reference to “Vedomosti”. The novelty is currently being patented.
The first film to be shown in the “Cosmax” format will be Klim Shipenko's “The Challenge”. The filming of this film was partially conducted in space, on the “Soyuz MS-19” international space station.
The cost of the “Cosmax” project, according to its authors, was less than 5 million rubles. A cinema hall for showing films in this format must be equipped with a special digital film projector and sound equipment. “Cosmax” is able to support any open format, but in order to convert footage to “Cosmax” format, the material must first be shot in high resolution.
