Today, the world community celebrates the International Zero Waste Day, established by the UN at the initiative of Emine Erdogan, wife of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Let us remind that under her patronage, the “Zero Waste” project was launched, which received support at the United Nations level.

During the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, following the meeting of Emine Erdogan with the UN Secretary General, a Declaration of Goodwill was signed on the “Global Zero Waste” project. The “Zero Waste” Resolution initiated by Türkiye was adopted by the UN General Assembly, 105 states joined it, including the co-organizing countries: Azerbaijan, the United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Finland, Italy, Sweden, Japan and the Republic of Korea.

The International Zero Waste Day aims to promote sustainable consumption and production patterns, support society's transition to circularity, and raise awareness of how zero waste initiatives contribute to advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

As we previously reported, Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Mahri Bashimova is taking part in the high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly on reducing waste to zero, which is taking place in New York.
