The “Russian Railways” Holding (RZD) plans to open a representative office in Ashgabat, and the “Turkmendemiryollary” Agency plans to open a representative office in Moscow. This was reported on the official Telegram channel of the Russian railway company.
“The activities of the cooperation program of the Russian and Turkmen railways for 2023-2025 are carried out strictly on time, including:
- joint work to increase transportation and logistics services on the eastern route of the “North-South” ITC;
- implementation of infrastructure projects in Turkmenistan;
- assistance to the Turkmen Railways in promoting digital transformation and developing human resources;
- the forthcoming opening of a representative office of Russian Railways in Ashgabat and the “Turkmendemiryollary” Agency in Moscow”, - the message says.
There is also an increase in the volume of rail freight transportation both in bilateral traffic and in transit through Turkmenistan along the “North-South” ITC to Iran and further to the countries of South Asia and the Persian Gulf. According to the results of the first quarter of 2023, they will amount to about 220 thousand tons, which is twice as high as in 2022.
Earlier, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and head of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov met in Ashgabat and discussed issues of cooperation in the field of railway transport.
