Turkmen athletes won 4 medals on the first day of competition at the Cup for the Founders of SAMBO in Moscow

The international tournament Cup for the Founders of Sambo started in Moscow on Saturday, the press service of the All-Russian Sambo Federation reports.

The competition brought together athletes from 10 countries who compete for prizes in 7 weight categories among men, women and in combat sambo. The program of the tournament includes fights in sambo and combat sambo among men in the weight category 58 kg, 64 kg, 71 kg, 79 kg, 88 kg, 98 kg and over 98 kg, as well as among women in the weight categories 50 kg, 54 kg, 59 kg, 65 kg, 72 kg, 80 kg and over 80 kg.

Athletes from Russia, Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, China, Tajikistan and Morocco take part in the tournament.

According to the results of the first day of the competition, the team of Turkmenistan won 4 medals. Of these, one gold and three bronze.

Babajan Ivadullaev won the award of the highest standard as part of the national team of Turkmenistan, who became the winner in combat sambo in the weight category over 98 kg.

Bronze medals were awarded to Sapar Dovletov (up to 64 kg) and Begench Baltaev (up to 79 kg) in sports sambo, and Mammetgurban Mammetgurbanov (up to 88 kg) in combat sambo.

The Cup for the Founders of SAMBO is named after Anatoly Harlampiev, Vasily Oshchepkov and Viktor Spiridonov, who are considered the founders of this sport.

Previously, this tournament was held under the name "Memorial of A. A. Harlampiev." It was established in 1980 on the initiative of the Department of Physical Education of the Moscow Power Engineering Institute, where one of the founders of Sambo, Anatoly Arkadyevich Harlampiev, worked in recent years. In 2009, these competitions changed their name to the A. A. Harlampiev Memorial Sambo World Cup. Since 2022, its organizers have changed the name of the international tournament to the Cup for the Founders of SAMBO.
