A new regional project of the International Organization for Migration “Assistance to the governments of the Central Asian states in the implementation of the Global Compact for Migration (GCM)” has started in Turkmenistan.
As reported on the website of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan, an event held in Ashgabat at the “Archabil” hotel was dedicated to the official launch of the project.
The event was attended by representatives of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan, employees of the IOM office in Turkmenistan, as well as representatives of the relevant state authorities of the country and international experts in this field.
The meeting participants were informed about the goals and objectives of the “Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration”, effective tools and methods for implementing this international document at the national level.
The GCM is the first intergovernmental agreement under the auspices of the UN covering all aspects of international migration, was adopted at the intergovernmental conference on migration in Morocco in 2018. It was approved by 193 UN member states, realizing the need for an integrated approach to migration issues.
