Saudi Arabia will create a new national airline Riyadh Air. This was announced on Sunday by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, reports the Saudi Press Agency.
It is planned that by 2030 the carrier will establish communication with more than 100 cities around the world. In what directions the airline will fly is still unknown.
The air carrier will be administered by the Saudi Arabian Sovereign Fund.
Saudi Arabia is preparing to strike a 35 billion USD deal with Boeing to purchase aircraft for the new airline.
The creation of the new carrier will be part of the “Vision-2030” strategy, which aims to diversify the local oil-dependent economy.
Saudi Arabia also intends to build one of the largest airports in the world in Riyadh. According to plans, its area will be about 57 square kilometers, and by 2030 it will be able to serve up to 120 million people.
