The 2023 Ice Hockey U18 Asia and Oceania Championship is the first tournament under the auspices of the IIHF under this name. In 2012, under the auspices of the IIHF, the UAE hosted the IIHF U18 Challenge Cup of Asia. Five teams participated in that tournament. Initially, the Hong Kong national team became the strongest in the tournament, winning devastating victories in all matches. However, due to problems with the players' documents, all the results of matches involving the Hong Kong national team were canceled. The team of Hong Kong was given a technical defeat in all matches with a score of 5:0. In this regard, the Thai team, which initially took second place, became the winner of the cup.
