Messi named FIFA World Player of the Year

PSG and Argentina striker Lionel Messi has been named the FIFA Player of the Year 2022.

The Best FIFA Football Awards 2022 awards ceremony was broadcast live in Turkmenistan by the Match TV channel.

PSG striker Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema were also up for the prize.

“You can't be more nervous than me. It's nice to be back here with Kylian, who had a great year. It's an honor to be at the gala again. I want to thank my teammates Scaloni and Emiliano Martinez here today. This is recognition of the merits of the whole team for what we have done. This year has been crazy for me, I was able to fulfill my dream, I have been striving for this for a long time. This is the dream of any player and very few can make it come true. I want to thank my family, the people of Argentina, for watching over us during this special month that will remain in our memory for a lifetime. I send a kiss to my children who are watching the ceremony”, the 35-year-old striker Marca quotes.

In 2022, Messi helped the Argentina national team win the World Cup title, and was also recognized as the best player in the 2022 World Cup. As part of PSG, the forward became the French champion and winner of the French Super Cup.
