The Peruvian authorities have extended the state of emergency until the end of 2023 due to an increase in the incidence of the bird flu virus among wild and domestic species of birds and animals, reports Khabar 24.

Since last year alone, the H5N1 strain has killed more than 63 thousand animals and birds. The rapid spread of the virus has affected not only poultry, but also otters and sea lions. So, recently hundreds of dead animals were found on the beaches of the Lima department.

According to the order of the authorities, the corpses of animals and birds cannot be approached without personal protective equipment.
