France plans to start preparing for another summer drought as early as March. The government may introduce severe restrictive measures on the use of water, Interfax reports.

Ecological Transformation Minister Christophe Bechoux said France is on high alert. The politician wants to make sure in advance not to end up in a catastrophic situation in July.

“This winter is the driest since 1959,” he said.

Beshu also said that there was no significant rain in the country for 31 days, although precipitation is expected in some places starting on February 22.

He confirmed that strict restrictive measures on water use could be announced from Monday, which will come into effect from March, "to avoid catastrophic situations this summer."

In the summer of 2022, many regions of France experienced a historic drought.
