In the state of Ohio, after a chemical spill due to the crash of a freight train on February 3 this year, there is a mass death of animals, writes the “MIR 24” portal.

Nearly 45 thousand animals died, soil and water bodies were contaminated. A multi-colored oily film is visible to the naked eye on the surface of the water. Every day, residents discover dead squirrels, raccoons, birds and other animals.

The state authorities are carrying out work to disinfect water bodies, hoping that animals and fish will soon begin to return and the population will gradually recover, but local residents do not share their optimism. The population complains of breathing problems and coughing, pain in the eyes and fears of an outbreak of cancer in a few years.

In early February, dozens of wagons filled with vinyl chloride, a toxic and explosive gas with a faint sweet smell, overturned in Ohio. After the accident, the rescuers decided to set fire to the gas in order to avoid its spread to large areas, but when burned, vinyl chloride is even more dangerous - it releases carbon monoxide, phosgene and hydrogen chloride. The explosion of burning vinyl chloride was visible for many kilometers and outwardly reminded the locals of a nuclear one.
