Experts predict a rise in prices for perfume products due to severe drought in the south of France, where many plants that are used in perfumery grow, writes The Guardian.

The French city of Grasse is considered the “Mecca of Perfumery”, a leader in the cultivation of lavender, tuberose, jasmine and rose of May, most commonly used to create fragrances. Last summer, a severe drought in the region reduced the yield of many fragrant plants by an average of 40 percent.

In addition, a few years ago, a tropical cyclone destroyed up to a third of vanilla plantations in Madagascar (vanilla is also widely used in perfumery). All this can have a negative effect on the level of world prices for branded perfumes.

To maintain its status as the perfume capital of the world and withstand the global climate crisis, Grasse decided to start using sustainable production technologies.
