1. President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Chairman of the Board of “Gazprom” Alexey Miller discussed cooperation in the gas sector. The meeting was held within the framework of the working visit of the “Gazprom” delegation to Turkmenistan. The parties considered the course and prospects of cooperation in the gas sector.
2. A specialized economic exhibition of the Islamic Republic of Iran has opened at the expo center of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan. A large delegation, which included representatives of about 70 Iranian companies and firms, arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the review. Among them are both long-term partners of Turkmenistan with many years of experience in productive cooperation in various fields, and companies for which the current exhibition is a launching pad for demonstrating their products in Turkmenistan.
3. The flow of tourists from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan in 2022 amounted to about 11 thousand citizens. The first place in terms of tourist flow to Azerbaijan was taken by Russia, from where more than 446 thousand people came. In second place is Türkiye - 311 thousand travelers. Iran closes the top three (170 thousand).
4. Airbus has completed work on painting the aircraft in the corporate colors of the “Turkmenistan” Airlines, which became the first customer of this type of aircraft. Photos of the aircraft in the livery of “Turkmen Airlines”, taken at the airport of the Irish city of Shannon, appeared on specialized aviation resources. It is expected that the first Airbus will be handed over to the Turkmen air carrier as early as March 2023.
5. Turkmenistan exported 104 thousand tons of tomatoes to Russia and other countries in 2022. This is significantly more than in 2021, when Turkmenistan entered the top four largest suppliers of greenhouse tomatoes in the Russian Federation and became the main supplier of such products to Tajikistan, where the first Turkmen tomatoes were sent in 2020. In Turkmenistan, 712 hectares of greenhouse areas have been allocated for growing greenhouse vegetables, including tomatoes. The tomato reproduction season lasts almost all year round, excluding the hot period.
6. Forbes magazine has included director James Cameron in the list of the highest paid people from show business over the past year. According to the sources of the publication, with the help of the new part of “Avatar” he managed to gain at least 95 million USD. “Avatar: The Way of Water” earned more than two billion dollars at the worldwide box office and became the fourth highest-grossing picture in the history of cinema.
7. The Sri Lankan authorities have introduced a complete ban on the use of single-use plastic products. The ban is dictated by environmental protection, as well as measures to save the elephants and wild deer living on the island, which are killed by non-biodegradable plastic waste that gets into their food. From June 2023, the production and sale of plastic products will be banned in Sri Lanka.
