The youngest patient with Alzheimer's disease was found in China, he is only 19 years old, writes “MIR 24” with reference to the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease portal.
The young man felt the first symptoms at the age of 17 - he began to have problems with concentration during his studies, loss of short-term memory, disorientation in space and time. At the age of 18, he had to drop out of school, as he began to have problems with reading and expressing thoughts.
The analyzes showed that the patient has atrophy of the hippocampus - the part of the brain responsible for orientation in space and performing the function of short-term memory. It is the death of the hippocampus that is one of the early symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.
This disease mainly affects older people over 65 years of age. Its main symptoms are loss of short-term memory, disorientation in space and time, impaired cognitive abilities.
