The Minister of Industry, Trade and Energy of the Astrakhan region Ilya Volynsky touched upon the topic of building new ships for transporting goods across the Caspian Sea, reports abnews.ru.

Astrakhan shipyards build dry cargo ships that meet the parameters of the ports of the Caspian Basin and the Caspian Shipping Canal.

“At the Astrakhan shipbuilding plant “Lotos”, by order of the state transport leasing company, the construction of four container ships with a capacity of 530 containers each is underway. In 2025, they will go on flights across the Caspian Sea”, Volynsky said in an interview with the “Lotos” television company.

According to him, the issue of registering a shipping line between Russia and Turkmenistan is currently being worked out.

In particular, it will link the ports of Astrakhan and Turkmenbashi. After the official opening of the sea route, cargo owners and shippers of Turkmenistan will be provided with a clear timetable for the movement of ships. According to the schedule, it will be possible to plan the shipment of goods across the Caspian to the Astrakhan region.
