The Asian Football Cup 2027 will be held in Saudi Arabia. This was officially announced today at the Asian Football Confederation in Manama (Bahrain).
The Asian Football Cup is held every four year. It’s first drawing took place in 1956. Since 2007, the tournament has been held in odd-numbered years. In 2023, the Asian Cup will be held for a record third time by Qatar. The national team of this country is the current champion of the continent. At the same time, Saudi Arabia has never hosted the tournament.
From 2019, the Asian Cup have been attended by 24 national teams (before that, from 4 to 16 national teams in different years). Football players of the national team of Turkmenistan twice participated in the final stages of the Asian Cup. For the first time in 2004, when the tournament was held in China, and for the second time in 2019 in the UAE.
Football in Saudi Arabia has been developing rapidly for the last time. Local clubs can boast of wide financial opportunities. Thus, at the end of 2022, the “Al-Nasr” football club signed a contract with the famous Portuguese Christiano Ronaldo. It is expected that now Saudi clubs will strive to attract other European football starts.
